The Vision

Civil Liberties vs. The U.S. Patriot Act

                         A Nationwide Town Hall Meeting

Our proposal is to reach the largest audience of citizens possible at one time.

To accomplish this task, we propose a simulcast Nationwide Town Hall Meeting which would be coordinated with gatherings of citizens in auditoriums universities, stadiums, and any place where the citizenry can congregate throughout the United States

Our intent is to create a national event that would highlight the effects of The U.S. Patriot Act upon our civil liberties.

The event  would be a gathering of citizens which would encompass, lawyers, theologians, educators, journalists, investigative reporters, politicians, constitutional scholars, public personalities and civic-minded individuals, that would participate in a discussion and debate.

The Evolution

As the months since The Supreme Court appointed our new president, we have seen an unprecedented assault upon our civil liberties.

Upon the enactment of the U.S. Patriot Act (I), our fate was sealed. It is as if the nation itself was shaken to its core and the souls of our forefathers set forth a clarion call and harkened us to confront the threat to our civil liberties.

It was at that precise moment that we knew we had to commit our considerable talents, our abilities, and put our passion to work.

It became the impetus of our vision: A national, monumental, and historical event that could redefine the ideals and processes of democracy.

It is our belief that we are on the precipice of the demise of the ideals and principles of our democratic government, and that if left unchecked and unchallenged, we assuredly will be led down the slippery slope careening towards a totalitarian state.

It is now time for accountability for those who blindly voted yes (for the U.S. Patriot Act). It is now time to replace hysteria and fear with reason. It is now time for our legislators to honor their oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and our Bill of Rights.

The Purpose and Intent

The U.S. Patriot Act was enacted onOctober 26, 2001, without discussion or debate. The more far-reaching, U.S. Patriot Act II is waiting to be enacted. This is in spite of the fact that not a single representative has been given access to the document.

The purpose of this momentous event will be to educate, energize, activate, and motivate the citizenry to demand accountability from their legislators.

This event will be monumental and unique

1.     It will be simulcast throughout every market throughout the U.S. including radio, television, cable, and satellite.

2.     It will be an absolute exercise in democracy.

3.     It will be interactive

a.     There will be microphones at the filming site for audience participation

b.     There will be microphones at all satellite town hall gatherings

c.     There will be real-time email access to question the panel

d.     There will be call-in questions

e.     There will be phone in, text messaging, and Internet national voting*

4.     It will be the largest gathering of citizens to discuss a national issue

5.     It will be a clear and decisive proclamation to our elected officials

6.     It will set a precedent

*The voting will give citizens the platform to demand and insist that their legislators re-examine, modify, or rescind The U.S. Patriot Act. This vote will act as a clear and decisive opinion of the electorate.

This Event Will Be Accomplished By

The vision is to attain collaboration from radio, satellite, cable, and network broadcasting companies to act together in a concerted effort.
